Jahrtausende alte Methoden wie Meditation, Atemtechniken und sogenanntes Chanting k\u00f6nnen die Aktivit\u00e4t des autonomen Nervensystems auf direkte oder indirekte Weise beeinflussen und dadurch eine tiefe Wirkung auf s\u00e4mtlichen Ebenen unseres Daseins entfalten. Die Effekte reichen von kurzfristigen Stimmungsverbesserungen zu langfristigen und tiefgreifenden Ver\u00e4nderungen in unserer Physiologie. Moderne Studien konnten dauerhafte Ver\u00e4nderungen im Hormonhaushalt, der Hirnstruktur und sogar der Aktivierung\/Deaktivierung bestimmter Gene nachweisen. Eine regelm\u00e4\u00dfige Regulation des Nervensystems spiegelt sich jedoch nicht nur auf der k\u00f6rperlichen Ebene wider \u2013 sie wirkt sich darauf aus, wie wir auf Stresssituationen, emotionale Trigger, und andere Lebenssituationen reagieren. Das zentrale Nervensystem besteht im Grunde genommen aus dem Gehirn und der Wirbels\u00e4ule, und bildet die zentrale Steuereinheit. Das periphere Nervensystem hingegen besteht aus s\u00e4mtlichen anderen Nervenstr\u00e4ngen, welche den K\u00f6rper wie ein Netz durchziehen und die Kommunikation zwischen dem zentralen Nervensystem und dem restlichen K\u00f6rper erm\u00f6glichen. Das periphere Nervensystem wiederum wird in das somatische Nervensystem und das autonome Nervensystem unterteilt. W\u00e4hrend das enterische Nervensystem unsere Verdauung steuert, regulieren das sympathische und das parasympathische Nervensystem im Tandem unseren Gem\u00fcts- und Aktivit\u00e4tszustand. Die Stimulation des Sympathikus (sympathisches Nervensystem) sorgt f\u00fcr mehr Aktivit\u00e4t, setzt Stresshormone frei und macht Energie in Armen und Beinen verf\u00fcgbar. Der Parasympathikus (parasympathisches Nervensystem) hingegen f\u00f6rdert Ruhe und Entspannung und regt Zellregeneration und andere Heilprozesse
